Caring for a animal is a responsibility. Being knowledgebale to the issues of unwanted pets is also responsible. My screening practices and placement process ensures that the puppies I breed are going into forever homes. i believe that owners who believe they may not be able to fully protect a female from being bred, should have their female spayed before a mating could occur. Males should also not be allowed to run free irresponsibly. However, I also believe that spaying and neutering is often a replacement for training and being a responsible owner. There is a number of studies that show evidence of increased life span and other health benefits in association with delayed spaying and neutering.
