Spirit Rider Golden Retrievers

Naming

When a litter is born here, we choose a theme to help name the litter. We are able then to remember which litter a puppy comes from. It aids other breeders as well in identifying littermates. We have used several themes in the past, such as key, forest, hot, moon. Often the call names are derived from the registered name. For example, Spiritrider's Forest Master. His call name was Hunter. Spiritrider's Moonbeam Wishes call name is Beamer. When we have chosen the litter name theme we will let the adopting families know, so they can have input. If you already have a call name in mind, not to worry, you can still use it, but if you don't have a name in mind, sometimes this is a way of having a very unique name. On the topic of naming, I have a few basic suggestions. Choose a name that will be easy to use with obedience commands. Try them out and make sure the name is not confusing by being too close ("S" names are tough with sit, stay commands sometimes. Also, go outside and call the name out loud. Are you going to be embarrassed at the dog park? Try to be unique. Your dog is special to you and deserves some careful consideration as an individual. One weekend I walked into my boarding kennel and I had 5 dogs named "Buddy"!
